Hot off the presses is news that IBM is set to acquire Netezza in a $1.7 billion deal: the giant is spending money like there’s no tomorrow, and playing out strategies in response to aggressive moves by other vendors in the data warehouse space. This acquisition, along with SAP’s recent acquisition of Sybase and EMC’s acquisition of Greenplum will surely not be the only ones reshaping the data warehouse space in the near future.
According to Steve Mills, senior vice president and group executive for IBM Software and Systems,
IBM is bringing analytics to the masses. We continue to evolve our capabilities for systems integration, bringing together optimized hardware and software, in response to increasing demand for technology that delivers true business value. Netezza is a perfect example of this approach.
