One major cross-sale opportunity in the recent merger of Epicor and Activant into a new Epicor was unveiled on November 20, 2012, when Epicor announced the availability of the Epicor ICE business architecture for the Epicor Prophet 21 wholesale distribution enterprise resource planning (ERP) solution.
Epicor ICE is a modern technology set that was first developed by Epicor for its flagship Epicor ERP product. However, ICE should enable Prophet 21 users (and users of many other Epicor legacy ERP products, for that matter) with enhanced levels of mobility, accessibility, and interactivity among business applications. Epicor ICE acts both as a connector and an application builder, providing distributors with access to the latest applications and technical capabilities while still taking advantage of Prophet 21’s deep distribution functionality (see the product’s TEC profile).
Epicor ICE brings together the necessary components to start leveraging the benefits of this new technology “out of the box,” including enterprise search, dashboards, and business activity queries (BAQ). The idea is that with ICE distributors become able to work when, where, and how they want to work—e.g., field sales representatives can manage opportunities from their smartphone, executives can analyze financial data using spreadsheets, and anyone can find data in Prophet 21 through a search engine—all without ever having to sign in to the Prophet 21 application.
Prophet 21 utilizes a Microsoft Windows-based platform and SQL Server database. Now with integration to Epicor ICE, Prophet 21 customers can leverage new technology from Epicor. The vendor is hereby delivering on the ‘Extend’ piece of its “Protect, Extend, Converge” product strategy.
