Time and again it’s been shown that a sharp industry focus can help lesser known and smaller enterprise resource planning (ERP) vendors remain relevant amid cutthroat competition. One such smaller vendor is VAI (Vormittag Associates, Inc.), a provider of ERP software in IBM’s ecosystem, which recently announced that Colonial Grocers has selected its S2K for Food software to improve inventory management processes, increase productivity and service levels, and gain insights and feedback from its vast customer and product data.
Located in Tampa, FL, Colonial Grocers is one of the largest independent wholesale grocery, tobacco, candy, and beverage distributors in the state, serving more than 3,000 convenience stores and gas stations. After taking an in-depth look at several unnamed ERP solutions, with the help of MCS Business Technologies, Inc., Colonial Grocers selected VAI S2K for Food. A key order-winning factor was reportedly VAI’s S2K software integration with the myriad technology services with which Colonial Grocers works, including payroll, shipping, credit card processing, direct store delivery (DSD), and forms and labels.
In addition, S2K for Food is expected to improve visibility of inventory across all of Colonial Grocers’ three companies (Payless on the Go, Payless Cash & Carry Club, and Colonial Grocers Distribution Services) and fill rates on all orders delivered. Improved inventory accuracy leads to improved productivity in the warehouse as well.
Last but not least, VAI’s business intelligence (BI) module, S2K Analytics, should provide Colonial Grocers with dynamic dashboards and reports to help the company obtain more value from its enterprise data, such as the ability to collect insight into which product discount is yielding positive results and details into how the company’s warehouse management system (WMS) is performing.
