moodle-logo.gifThe HTML5 Moodle Mobile app is now available on Google Play (Android) and Apple iTunes (iOS). Based, on the iOS app “My Moodle,” the newly designed app has been developed to address security, working offline, speed, branding, and customization requirements.

Relias Learning specializes in developing e-learning solutions for the senior care industry in North America. Through the acquisition, Relias Learning is aiming to expand its Silverchair Learning Systems with Care2Learn’s capabilities to support learning needs for long-term and post-acute care providers and professionals.

bb.jpgBlackboard Inc. announced a new release of its learning management system (LMS). New functionality focuses on student retention and outcomes.

The release introduces Retention Center, an embedded feature that unveils student performance and engagement. Instructors can recognize risk factors such as missed deadlines and poor grades. Consequently, professors may identify those students that need extra help to improve their performance. Furthermore, instructors have the option to define risk factors on top of the pre-loaded ones. images-3.jpgCourseSmart, one of the largest providers of eTextbooks, today announced its partnership with Instructure—the company that produces the learning management system (LMS), Canvas. CourseSmart’s collection includes 30,000 eTextbooks and digital course materials. This initiative permits instructors and students to access the CourseSmart eTextbooks via their student/instructor Canvas portal.

One of the benefits of digitizing textbooks is the reduction of cost. According to the press release, eTextbooks are up to 60 percent cheaper than their printed versions. The news signals a more competitive and vibrant LMS market that makes Blackboard’s long-lasting supremacy a thing of the past.

We recently certified SimplyDigi’s learning management suite (LMS) , and I wanted to share my first impressions of the product with you. SimplyDigi was founded in Delaware (US) in 1999 and offers two products: SimplyDigi LMS/LCMS (Learning Content Management System) and DigiCast (for live classroom and meeting events). There are two reasons which led me to write this blog. Firstly, I recently had briefings with vendors such as Learn.com and Xyleme that made me realize that the learning management system (LMS) industry is building up more and more connections with other technologies and enterprise applications. Secondly, a recent article (see Trends in LMS by Don McIntosh) explains how LMS is evolving with Web 2.0, talent management, mobile learning, software as a service (SaaS), and open-source software. Having worked mainly in the product development area in manufacturing, one question popped into my mind—does LMS have anything to do with product lifecycle management (PLM)?
